Abstract

In 2009, theTimes Higher Education Supplementranked HKUST asNo. 35 of the World's Top 200 Universities and No. 4 of the World's Top 200 Asian Universities.In less than 20 Years of existence, HKUST has achieved global recognition.The current state of affairs at HKUST will be reviewed as well as the factors that most likely led to the remarkable rankings, all from the perspective of one of the founding faculty members. Suggestions are made on how an existing institution with limited resources could attain global recognition.
